    ALICE WANG & JASON CHANG

    Calistoga, California

Jason and Alice met each other through a mutual friend when they both worked at separate investment management firms in Dallas in August 2008. At that time, they had both recently moved to Dallas after several years of working in New York.

It was a tumultuous time to be working in finance, and only a few months after they met, Alice had to relocate back to New York during the height of the financial crisis to work for a different firm.

THEY DECIDED TO GIVE LONG DISTANCE DATING A TRY

Knowing that they may have found something special in each other, they decided to give long distance dating a try. After almost a year of dating long distance and traveling back and forth between New York and Dallas to visit each other at least once every month, Jason was able to transfer to the Greenwich, CT office (a forty-five minute ride to Manhattan) of his firm and the couple was reunited in the same city.

After two and a half years of dating, both Jason and Alice knew they were planning to get engaged. However, Jason made it his goal to have the proposal still be a surprise for Alice. Having thought of every romantic location possible, from Big Sur to Napa to all of the Caribbean islands and everything in between, the idea of proposing at the Grand Canyon during a trip to Las Vegas sparked his interest the most.

Alice would never suspect a proposal while in Vegas (as that isn’t the typical place for such a romantic gesture), was Jason’s thinking. It was the perfect plan, since Alice had never been to the Grand Canyon before, and it was a quick thirty-five minute helicopter flight from Vegas. Jason proceeded to book a full day helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon during their trip, while Alice suspected nothing.

It was an incredible day, flying to the bottom of the Canyon and back up to the top, including a ride on the riverboat at the bottom of the Canyon, and a walk on the glass bridge that hung over the top of the Canyon. It was an amazing experience they both will never forget. Towards the end of their day trip, Jason was able to find a quiet spot at the top of the Canyon and pulled Alice aside where he got down on one knee and proposed with a beautiful canary yellow diamond ring custom designed by Mimi So New York.

Alice was incredibly happy and surprised, and said yes immediately. They then flew back to Vegas on the helicopter and celebrated their engagement with a dinner at Andre’s Restaurant.
