We met six years ago in my building in New York. He was visiting my cousin who was my next-door neighbor, and we’ve been together ever since! We didn’t start dating immediately but we developed the most amazing friendship. Before being a couple we are each other’s best friend, and that’s what makes our relationship more special. Like any other couple we have our ups and downs, but because of the commitment we both have toward our union we make sure no matter what it is, it doesn’t affect our bond.

The decision of becoming a couple was mutual, we had many conversations about it and both agreed on the fact that the only place this relationship will take us, will be to the altar, and here we are. It wasn’t love at first sight; we discovered and learnt about each other and made the decision that we could and would spend the rest of our lives together. We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy ride but we were, and will remain, committed to one and another until death do us apart. We bring the best, and sometimes the not so best, out of each other, but it is all part of the game.

But what prevails is the unconditional love we have for each other without a doubt.

“WE ARE EACH OTHER’S BEST FRIEND, AND THAT’S WHAT MAKES OUR RELATIONSHIP MORE SPECIAL.” - CEDRIQUE DE CHACUS

We could have met many years ago whether it was in France or in Benin (the houses where we grew up face each other, can you believe it): one of our uncles and aunts are married to one another, we had mutual friends in France, we attended the same parties, but never came across each other. With all that, it is clear that God has the perfect timing in life for everything, and we were meant to be together.

All that make us appreciate how lucky we are to have found one another. The past six years were filled with love, growth, challenges and an ever-growing faith. Religion and faith have a huge place in our marriage, and we pray that throughout this amazing journey that we are sharing together, God will keep on gracing us with his wisdom and his light.”
