Newport Weddings

Newport has become the ultimate New England wedding destination year-round. Each year, thousands of couples from across the United States and across the world choose to marry in Newport and Newport County. While competition is intense for the choicest venues and views from late spring through early fall, savvy brides have come to appreciate Newport in the off-season.

While weddings on a gracious lawn, at a vineyard or aboard a tall ship may require warm weather, most of Newports unique and outstanding venues are equally stunning in winter. Fireplaces and candles are lit adding cozy warmth, while lights on the bridges and across the bay sparkle. Ocean views dont hibernate in winter, Newport shopping remains open. Beaches might not invite swimming, but they still accommodate quiet nature walks.

Winter offers both discounts and availability especially at venues and hotels. All guests may be accommodated together in a block of rooms at a hotel only during off-season. Some mansions have guest rooms that could accommodate a small wedding party. The wedding becomes a special self-contained event uninterrupted by the bustle of visitors.

"Newport has walkability," Grady Yarrow, convention sales manager for the Newport Visitors Center, added. "Everything is centralized; its a nice amenity. Even at night, it isnt necessary to drive to reach restaurants and clubs. Its a safe walkable destination." Wedding parties are frequently seen walking from the historic synagogue or churches to an ocean-front hotel for the reception. The Newport Trolley also provides unique group transportation between venues.

In summer, clambakes and picnics at beaches or aboard ships are popular choices for rehearsal dinners. Other popular choices year-round include a wide selection of restaurants with distinctive dcor and world-class cuisine. The Norman Bird Sanctuary, the Pirate Museum at Fort Adams and the Childrens Museum offer family entertainment. In summer, the Newport Aquarium and merry-go- round are also open at First Beach. Festivals take place throughout the year including the world famous Jazz and Folk Festivals and the Black Ships Festival as well as the Taste of Rhode Island, Chowderfest and Oktoberfest.
