Something Amazing

Bel-Air, California

March, 2006

It was love at first exposure for Jaclyn Crow and Marchelino Roos; the couple was introduced via photographs through a mutual friend while Jaclyn attended the University of Miami in Florida, and Marchelino worked as a professional model.

The attraction was instantaneous, and they soon started dating. "We had a lot of chemistry," Jaclyn said. "I knew about a month after [we met] that I wanted to marry him. I had never felt that way about anybody else before."

One Memorial Day weekend, Marchelino surprised Jaclyn by popping the question in front of her whole family. "We talked about it but I didn't think it was something that was going to happen so soon," she recalled. But the bride-to-be said yes immediately, and plans for the wedding were set in motion.

Despite the fact that Jaclyn lived in Miami and Marchelino hailed from the island-nation of Aruba, the pair decided to have their wedding in Jaclyn's native California.

They chose the elegant Le Chateau Rose in Bel-Air to host the wedding. The mansion is an exact replica of Le Petit Trianon, Marie Antoinette's summer palace in Versailles, given as a gift to her by Louis XVI. The marble building with its neoclassical architecture, high windows, and imposing colonnade gave a perfect air of grandeur and style.

The bride, resplendent in her Old Hollywood-inspired Badgley Mischka dress, walked down the aisle in front of more than 200 friends and family who flew in from as far as Africa to be with the couple for their special day. "There wasn't one person that wasn't there that was our close friend." Jaclyn said. "Everyone was there; that was very important to us."

The two had an outdoor Catholic ceremony at the chateau backed by a 12-person gospel choir that sang as guests exited to the reception. "The choir was something amazing," said Marchelino. "It makes me cry. It was awesome." But, he added: "The most special moment was seeing the bride coming down the aisle. [I thought] that's not going to be my girlfriend, that's going to be my wife."

For the reception, Jaclyn went for a fairy-tale, "Midsummer Night's Dream" theme that emphasized the grace and magic of the location. Tall floral centerpieces by LA Premier decorated the tables, while a dance of twinkling lights hanging from the ceiling played around the room. Entertainment was provided by Cirque du Soleil contortionists and a full salsa band. "I wanted to stay away from the traditional," Jaclyn said.

The newlyweds danced to their wedding song "By Your Side," by Sade, and their guests dined on lobster ravioli and filet mignon, as well as the couple's favorite dish: black cod with miso from Nobu. "It went on for six almost seven hours," Marchelino said. "Everybody loved it."

After the wedding, the couple honeymooned in five-star luxury at Las Ventanas al Paraiso in Los Cabos, Mexico. The gorgeous seaside resort is one of the premier destinations in Latin America.
