I knew I had to get to know her

"I met Barrett through mutual friends while he was playing guitar and singing in a local band," recalls Lori Ware of her now husband Barrett Allen. "We became 'friends' quickly.  I loved him right away."

Barrett and Lori soon found out that they had much in common. They shared an obsession with music and we were both anti-commitment of sorts.

"When I first saw Lori I knew I had to get to know her.  There was something about her that said 'this girl is special,'" notes Barrett.

"I remember staying up until 5am talking on my couch," Lori says. "We had so much to talk about.  I’d go to work the next day on 2 or 3 hours of sleep, energized by our late night conversation, eager to see him again." This routine continued for 3 to 4 weeks. But one night — after a show — Barrett walked Lori to her car and kissed her. The couple has been happy together ever since.

After almost two and a half years together, Barrett took Lori out to dinner at their special place. "Our engagement was a surprise to me I didn’t see it coming," says Lori. Although the original plan was to ask Lori over dinner, Barrett "chickened out" and opted for "plan B."

"I was going to ask her in the middle of the road on a nice bench surrounded by flowers, but some homeless people ruined the moment.  I had to think fast so I took her to a nice plaza with a fountain," Barrett says. Lori recalls: "I thought 'this is going be really good or really bad.' I could sense his nervousness in my own belly." As they walked around Barrett took a deep breath, dropped down on one knee and popped the question.

"I [Lori] was so caught off guard all I said was 'What?!? Say it again!'" "As she said 'yes' I happily slid the ring on her finger," Barrett notes.

Wanting a relaxed, but beautiful atmosphere where everyone would feel like they are on vacation was the perfect fit with Lori's dream of a beach wedding. "We spend so much time in the Outer Banks; it seemed like the perfect place.  Plus, planning was so easy with so many of our friends living there to help. I was so excited to marry him.  I never felt nervous or anxious for a second," she comments.

"It was amazing to have all of our loved ones all around us.  Even our dog, Molly, was there with us," smiles Lori. "Barrett was so helpful and amazing.  I feel like I couldn’t be luckier to have married such an amazing man."

For Barrett, "It’s hard to describe the day because I have never felt that way before. Being surrounded by all the people who have loved and supported us our whole lives was amazing.  I don’t think I could have imagined or hoped for anything better."
