    CANDY NGAN & KENNY HO

March 23, 2011 in Koh Samui, Thailand

High school teachers could not stop Candy Ngan and Kenny Ho’s “adventure of love.” When Kenny passed Candy sitting in her classroom one day, he was immediately smitten. And while Candy recalls teachers telling them that a relationship would affect their studies, the two didn’t stop dating. “Our puppy love just started simply, naturally and happily,” recalls Candy.

It continued when they both left Hong Kong for Vancouver and attended the same university. In August of 2010 Kenny decided that the time was right to propose. “After being together for 10 years of love,” he says, “I knew she must be the one in my life.”

His surprise proposal led Candy around to multiple locations at the Hyatt Regency Sha Tin Hotel in Hong Kong. A photo (one from each year of their relationship) and a note led her from room to room. At the 11th spot, Candy rang the doorbell and Kenny was down on one knee. “It took me quite a long time to choose photos and write the notes,” he says, “but I felt very excited thinking of the scene that would happen during the day of my proposal.”

That fall, multi-city engagement and pre-wedding photo sessions continued the couple’s romantic adventure. In Europe, they visited Paris, London and Manchester before heading to Hong Kong to shoot in their old high school, a beloved park and a tennis court to honor their shared hobby.

More travel ensued, this time to Bali, Okinawa and Koh Samui to find a location for their destination wedding, and the W Retreat Koh Samui in Thailand was the “perfect spot with relaxing surroundings, ocean and sunshine,” says Candy. Choosing a palette of pale green, pink and creamy white added to the resort’s ambiance and gave the couple the sweet and fun environment they desired.

Embracing the rare opportunity of having family and friends together at once, all 100 guests enjoyed a casual welcome dinner the day before the nuptials. A traditional Chinese tea ceremony—of which Kenny successfully passed every game set forth by Candy’s bridesmaids and sisters—started the wedding day festivities.

Although the groom says he never imagined he would cry on their wedding day, tears did fall when his bride gave her speech during the registration ceremony. Unstable weather meant a last-minute change to their dinner reception, from a formal setup to a casual buffet on the beach. At first, a bit unhappy with the altered plans, Candy says, “they brought us many joyful moments.” A stunning firework show capped the reception.

At midnight, the newlyweds, bridal party and photographers dove into the couple’s private pool—all fully clothed, including Kenny in a shocking pink Jil Sander suit—for an impromptu game of hide-and-seek. While the busy couple is still planning their honeymoon, for now, they are enjoying just being together each day. “Simply relaxing at home and having a cup of coffee every morning with him,” says Candy, “I am already perfectly content.”
