Tony Broccoli, son of legendary film producer, Albert "Cubby" Broccoli (the James Bond franchise, Chitty Chitty Band Bang, winner of the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award at the 1982 Academy Awards and recipient of a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame) was a longtime and somewhat notorious Hollywood bachelor whose life was filled with international travel and red carpet events.
And, while there's some truth behind the idiom that "you can't teach an old dog new tricks," after Tony met Rika Horie, he set out to prove that saying wrong. Having met his future wife through his best friend, Oscar nominated Short Film Director Jonathan Heap, Tony was immediately taken by her classic Japanese beauty and what he saw as a magnificent lotus blossom, unfolding gradually, one petal at a time just for him. But it was not to be a relationship that developed quickly. Tony's constant travel and Hollywood lifestyle kept him out of Rika's orbit. One night, discovering that she was having dinner with their mutual friend Heap, Tony convinced Jonathan to put her on the telephone with him. And it was that conversation with Rika that convinced Tony that she was destined to be his lotus blossom. But Rika was off to Japan the next morning and it would be months before their paths would cross again.
A native of Osaka, Japan, and the daughter of a successful Japanese business executive, Rika was starting to put together what was to become the red hot Rika Restaurant and Diamond Lounge at Sunset Millennium on the Sunset Strip. In the midst of finalizing her business plan Rika decided to have a small birthday gathering for herself. Hearing about the party, Tony decided that he would show up uninvited. What makes this story particularly romantic is that that night Rika was hoping to see another man at her party, but when Tony walked in and she saw him, something magical happened and they have been almost inseparable ever since. As for Tony, that sealed the end of his Hollywood bachelor lifestyle, and he looked forward to spending the rest of his life with the soulmate he had been searching for.
In December of 2008, Tony took Rika for a stroll down Rodeo Drive. Walking her into Cartier, Tony was immediately greeted by the store's senior salesperson who had sold more than one serious piece of jewelry to Tony's late Mother, Dana Broccoli. And, in what seemed like a dream to Rika, they left the store with a 4.5 carat yellow and white diamond engagement ring.
Rika had transformed this once notorious Hollywood player by helping him bring his strength into the open. Since their wedding in Beverly Hills, followed by a traditional wedding ceremony in Shinto style at a shrine in Japan, they have dedicated their lives to helping others find their souls and spirituality because of the strength they have found in their relationship and life together.
