Natalie and Christian met in November of 2007 in downtown Austin through some mutual friends. They were at the popular Key Bar on west 6th street and were immediately captured by each other’s gregarious personalities.

“Christian” remembers Natalie “with his piercing blue eyes and infectious smile told me he was impressed with the witty, sassy, brunette in her knee high boots and short black dress. Smitten by this all American Midwest boy, I brought on the charm right off the bat.”

Their first conversations were about their love for sunny Arizona and the west coast favorite In-N-Out Burger. Natalie told Christian that someday when they got married, they could have their favorite take out at their wedding. Little did Natalie know, Christian was stunned–that was his line!!  “Unfortunately, In-N-Out was out at our wedding,” laughs Natalie “but our love for it stays strong.”

They went on their first date right before New Year’s Eve. It was a night out for Sushi, Natalie’s favorite, followed by a second date of a movie and pizza night, Christian’s favorite.  Their relationship grew as they become close with each other’s friends and family and built their lives in the Texas Hill Country. “We knew early on, we were in it for the long haul” says Natalie.

Christian proposed when they were in Grand Cayman for Natalie’s best friend’s wedding. The wedding was on a Saturday night and the next morning, Christian was complaining a bit that he had not gotten to spend much time with Natalie alone since they were surrounded by friends and he really wanted to have lunch with just her. Natalie thought it was sweet so they made time to sneak away from the group on a rainy morning that resulted in all the water sports activities to be cancelled.

They ran back to the hotel to throw on some flip-flops. Christian had a lunch packed and told Natalie he had a special beach he wanted to take her to. “I was all smiles,” remembers Natalie “because if you know Christian, he is not the romantic type at all. However, I definitely still had no suspicion.”

They arrived at Cemetery Beach (one of the best, remote snorkeling spots on the island,) that was completely secluded.  It was sprinkling, so they set up a picnic under the monkey pod trees and had a fun intimate little lunch. They reflected a lot on their relationship and their lives together and what discussed what each wanted for the future. Natalie told Christian in that conversation that she knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him and she would say yes whenever he was ready to ask.

At that moment, “Christian told me to close my eyes,” remembers Natalie “because he had a surprise for me-which I thought was chocolate, a perfect end to any meal. When I opened my eyes, he was on one knee with tears in his eyes asking me to be his wife.”  Natalie immediately said yes and could not stop hugging and kissing him.  “I was honestly shocked–I had no idea he was going to propose and it was sweeter than I could have imagined” she laughs.

When they got back to the hotel, Natalie learned that her parents and a few others knew about the proposal and that the ring had been under her nose the entire week. “All my best friends were there” says Natalie “and had no idea, so I was thrilled to get to surprise all of them. My step-dad recalls knowing, when I told them as he heard screams across the entire resort.”
