Barrett Hardwick and Jud Oswald met in New York City during the fall of 2005 "when I was working for Saks Fifth Avenue and Jud was completing his final year of law school at NYU," remembers Barrett. "Our first encounters were less than impressionable as I was 'reintroduced' to him two years later at a Christmas Party and promptly extended my hand stating: 'It’s nice to meet you.'" Astounded by the fact that he had not left a more memorable impression, Jud responded: “Nice to meet you? Seriously? I already know you.”
At the time of their reintroduction, Barrett had relocated to Atlanta for business school and Jud had settled into city life permanently. Although she was only visiting for the weekend, "once we were able to laugh off the awkward conversation starter, Jud asked to take me to dinner before I left the city," shares Barrett. "We had the most amazing first date at a Parisian restaurant in the West Village, which inevitably led to a two-year long-distance relationship," where they traveled between their respective cities twice a month.
In 2010, Jud relocated to Raleigh, N.C., for a job opportunity and persuaded Barrett to move with following her graduation. "We moved in together in January and were engaged less than five months later on my birthday," says Barrett.
Before the weekend was over, they had already chosen their venue, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, and set a date. "Being a native Floridian," explains Barrett, "I had known for some time that there was no better place in South Florida to set the wedding I had always imagined. The old-world charm situated in present-day Miami was the perfect setting for our wedding." Inspired by the "classic elegance infused with a little modern extravagance," everything was in motion for the wedding of their dreams.
