The simplicity of form and the subtle movements that occur within nature drive Amanda Elizabeth's work. The delicate process of chasing and repousse allows her to intimately manipulate sheets of metal into peaceful moments in time. It is about balancing the eye and creating a pleasing, calming object. Just enough texture, a touch of highlight, a gentle curve here... Elegant beauty with a vintage flair.
Its about fashion and grandeur... and making a statement through her art. Amanda Elizabeth works hard for her jewelry to interpret the nature that surrounds us all. Inspired by the intricate structure of plants she then abstracts into broader shapes and simple lines. I love the final piece," comments Amanda Elizabeth, adding: "The large size, the crisp white finish, it’s timeless style."
Her company, Amanda Elizabeth Jewelry, started in 2004 when she was just 22 years old. A graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, she studied and found her passion for jewelry. Through her three years of study with numerous birthdays, Christmases and holidays, she accumulated a sufficient amount of tools that allowed her to start her very own studio shortly after she took off her cap and gown.
Amanda Elizabeth also managed to get a part-time job teaching Jewelry at The Wayne Art Center, which over time turned into several teaching jobs at several locations including The University of the Arts for its Pre-College and Continuing Education Program.
Her studio is in a old lead factory on the edge of Center City in Philadelphia. Although she currently works alone, Amanda Elizabeth has dreams of hiring staff, having a larger studio and seeing more of her visions come to life, which she hopes to accomplish in the next 3 to 5 years. But, for now, she remains content with her company and its steady growth.
Amanda Elizabeth spent the last two and a half years developing her line and figuring out how she was going to make a living at what she loves to do. She took time to dive deep into her personal self to figure out “who am I?” and “what can I say through my work?” She has a passion to create jewelry that transcends time and nods to vintage and modern art. It is important to Amanda Elizabeth that her work is wearable and desirable, and that it satisfies a craving for something different and unique.
Most of her work is limited edition or one-of-a kind and she is constantly creating new pieces. Throughout the last three years some have stuck -- turning into production pieces -- while others have not been as lucky to survive. Overall she is very pleased with her current body of work as it has given her the opportunity to answer some of life’s questions.
This is just a small sampling of her boutonniere collection. To see more visit www.amanda-elizabeth.com.
