Dazzling Designs

As you envision and plan the look of your reception, you may opt for a touch of pizzazz on your wedding tabletops, choosing clever, artful, interesting floral arrangements paired with unlimited new options in linens, napkins, and china.

Couture is a strong influence on the work of California event-design firm Square Root, co-owned by Jeff Johnson and Alex Amadi. "It's important to see what's happening around you - what fashion designers are doing, the media, and the arts," says Johnson. "The goal is to do something that is understood by everyone, young and old, that's timeless and classic with a fresh look to it. It's important to be entertaining, but not overdone."

"The design process is usually ignited with a single word or color or texture," Johnson continues. Weddings tend not to rely much on props to create atmosphere, so event designers focus much of their attention on tabletops. "That's where everyone is going to be sitting for five hours," says Johnson. "That's what helps create the emotion of the day. The reception is where the party begins."
