The 2022 Cannes Film Festival concluded this weekend, with “Triangle of Sadness” taking home the coveted Palme d’Or award. Over the course of 12 days, more than 170 different countries are represented by festival goers to celebrate and promote the global film industry. Of all the award shows and events, the Cannes Film Festival is the greatest display of diversity, cinematic art, and – of course – fashion. Here’s our list of best dressed Cannes attendees for 2022 and the designers who created their red carpet looks.
Idris Elba and Sabrina Elba
Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina made their 2022 Cannes Film Festival debut in true power couple style, with Idris wearing a deep blue tux with peaked lapels by Gucci, and Sabrina wearing a gauzy gown by Tony Ward Couture fit for a Greek goddess.
It was Grace Elizabeth’s first Cannes Festival appearance, and the model quickly became the event’s golden child, attending the “Top Gun: Maverick” screening in a gilded ensemble styled by Amarsana Gendunova.
Hot pink was a popular color amongst the best dressed fashionistas in Cannes, and Katherine Langford look especially chic in a vibrant gown by Maison Valentino.
Versatility is one of the main characteristics of modern fashion, and Sharon Stone brought the 2-in-1 gown to life by wearing a custom silk Maiolica print number by Dolce & Gabbana. The removable skirt was then detached to reveal a column dress that was beaded in handcrafted Swarovski tiles.
Toni Garrn and Alex Pettyfer
German model Toni Garrn wore two contrasting, yet equally head-turning looks during her red-carpet appearances. First was a glamorous white evening gown by Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini. She then opted to suit up for the screening of “Triangle of Sadness” with a crystal teal ensemble by Off-White. Alex Pettyfer also looked on brand for a South of France soiree in his Dolce & Gabbana suit.
It seems that Dolce & Gabbana were the label du jour at the 2022 Cannes Festival, with gowns and suits appearing nonstop on the red carpet. Poppy Delevingne wore a slinky, leggy, silver halter dress that shimmered in Swarovski crystals.
Glasgow-born singer Tallia Storm did not shy away from color for the opening ceremony, making her Cannes entrance wearing a whimsical tri-colored dress by Yanina Couture.
Paola El Sitt
Entrepreneur Paola El Sitt brought some Swan-Lake-meets-bridal vibes to the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, donning a voluminous white ballgown by La Metamorphose.
There were several ensembles that earned Patricia Contreras a spot on our Best Dressed list, but this ruffled corset ballgown by Sophie Couture was absolutely exquisite.
Noel Capri Berry
For the screening of “Triangle of Sadness,” model Noel Capri Berry wore a strapless Zuhair Murad dress of gold organza, featuring a gold bow and black velvet bodice.
Wherever she goes, chances are Jasmine Tookes will be one of the best dressed in the room. Her yellow Tony Ward Couture gown, which she wore to the screening of “Top Gun: Maverick,” was a red carpet show stopper.
Cindy Bruna arguably had the most viral fashion moment at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, with a video of a dramatic mountain of fabric spilling out of her car upon arrival. The over-the-top gown by Giambattista Valli may have received mixed reviews, but it’s fun to see designers taking the concept of mille-feuille (a thousand layers) literally. When in France…!
Actress Emilia Schule has been popping up on Best Dress lists everywhere after her Cannes Festival opening night appearance – and for good reason. Her Bowerall Short and Over the Sky Skirt combo from Kaviar Gauche was the perfect combination of modernity and effortless glamour. It would also make a fantastic “second look” for brides who want to change out of their wedding gown for the reception or afterparty.
Supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio embraced the avant-garde by attending the screening of "Armageddon Time” in a unique – and almost galactical-looking – white gown by Stephane Rolland.
Megan Blake Irwin
Australian model Megan Blake was the epitome of silver screen sophistication, wearing an ostrich feather ballgown by fellow Aussie, Paolo Sebastian.
Was there even a Cannes Film Festival before Leonie Hanne? The German blogger is always one of the best dressed attendees, and her parade of designer gowns is like an event in and of itself. We love all her Cannes looks, but our top three favorites for 2022 are: A pink tulle Nicole + Felicia ballgown, worn to the screening of “Top Gun: Maverick”; a stunning turquoise fantasy number, custom made by Tony Ward Couture for the screening of “Three Thousand Years of Longing”; and a sheer, crystalized jumpsuit with a lavish feather shawl train, custom made by Georges Hobeika for the screening of “Elvis.”
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
It was impossible not to notice Aishwarya Rai Bachchan when she arrived at the screening of “Armageddon Time.” Known to many as “The Queen of Cannes,” the Indian megastar wore an immaculate gown by Gaurav Gupta called, “The Venus Sculpture.” Inspired by the birth of Venus, this dress was hands-down one of the best fashion moments of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
Maison Valentino was Naomi Campbell’s designer of choice this year. She chose two looks, attending the screening of “Decision to Leave” in a black couture gown with feather embellishments.
Marina Ruy Barbosa
Another “pretty in pink” fashion moment when Marina Ruy Barbosa showed up at the screening of “Decision to Leave” wearing a frothy, tiered gown from Armani Privé.
Cannes may have been a technicolor parade of fashion this year, but Sara Sampaio stood out in a sheer black dress by PINKO, which she wore to the “Forever Young” screening.
Singer Ginta Biku looked radiant in a tiered ballgown (designer unknown) at the screening of “Triangle of Sadness.”
For the “Top Gun: Maverick” screening, Didi Stone looked simply regal in sumptuous gown by Vlisco.
Rounding out the best dressed at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival is Jessica Wang, who wore several gorgeous gowns including: A floral Nicolas Jebran ballgown to the “Top Gun: Maverick” screening; a luxe Giambattista Valli gown to the screening of “Armageddon Time”; and a caped Tony Ward creation that practically transformed her into a superhero for the screening of “Forever Young.”
