For the first time in history, Paris Couture Week has taken to a virtual platform, with the world’s top fashion designers producing a digital presentation of their latest couture collections. While there’s a learning curve when it comes to adjusting to this new, socially distanced world, these designers have risen to the occasion and released some stunning fashion films that explore various realms of creativity and inspiration. Here are some of our digital Paris Couture Week favorites to watch for a fashion-forward “movie night” in!

Ralph & Russo
This season, Ralph & Russo introduced their own avatar and muse known as “Hauli.” Based on one of their models, Hauli’s name in Swahili is synonymous with strength and power – a concept that ties in perfectly with the Autumn/Winter 2020-2021 couture collection of dramatic silhouettes, vivid colors, and bold prints. As Ralph & Russo posted on their Instagram page, “This season encourages us all to take refuge during this difficult time in a world of fantasy.”

Dior
Fantasy is clearly an overarching theme this year, and Dior produced an absolute masterpiece of escapism and fairytale magic in a presentation called, “Le Mythe Dior.” Directed by Matteo Garrone, this fashion film is a highlight of digital Paris Couture Week, showcasing the latest collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri. From porters carrying a magical trunk, to mermaids and forest nymphs, “Le Mythe Dior” is a feast for the imagination.

Elie Saab
Short and succinct, the Elie Saab fashion film for Couture Week is incredibly effective in conveying the inspiration and message behind this haute couture collection. Titled “Le Retour Aux Sources,” this video draws attention to the foundation and details of fashion. The brand states: “When the noises of our busy lives were silenced, only one sound emerged from within the deep void – the sound of the sacred source. While going back to the roots, we are paying homage to artistry and digging deep into the abundant beauty of nature.”

Rahul Mishra
As a poignant statement about transformation and taking a leap of faith, Butterfly People is the Fall/Winter 2020-2021 couture collection from designer Rahul Mishra. The current state of affairs has been begging the question about haute couture and its relevancy to today’s society; this collection addresses that point. Butterfly People is Rahul Mishra’s way to create sustainable employment within the couture community, which is made of countless skilled craftsmen.

Iris van Herpen
“Transmotion” is a short fashion film dedicated to a single look. Iris van Herpen chose to showcase the Transmotion dress on its own, creating a mesmerizing world of movement, volume, and monochromatic wonder. Her digital presentation is minimal yet impactful, modern yet “Old World moody” – a wonderful addition to the modern experiment of bringing Paris Couture Week to a virtual platform
