Since Gemy Maalouf opened her first Beirut atelier in 1996, her gowns have become ever-present in the world’s greatest fashion capitals – from London, to New York, to Paris and Milan. Now reaching fashion-forward brides in 48 countries, Gemy’s creations continue to provide modern brides with their dream wedding dress. We asked the designer to share some insight about her 2019 bridal collection and what inspires her during the design process.

GO: What is your favorite dress in this collection and why?
A: I would have to go with [the gown pictured above] since it has a romantic flair with a modern twist.

GO: What did you like about designing this collection?
A: Designing a new collection is always challenging yet fun. What I like most about this collection is the lightweight looks we designed.

GO: Where did you draw inspiration from for this season?
A: I start off every season by choosing the fabrics and textures that inspire me. From those, I create a new collection to match our identity.

GO: What trends are you looking forward to seeing on brides?
A: Every bride wants to stand out on her big magical day while feeling fashionable and most importantly comfortable, which is what we are leaning towards for the next year. We have already started with some creations and it met a huge success.

GO: Do you offer custom designs?
A: We do not design custom gowns; however, we can alter the dress as per the customer’s needs.

GO: What is your favorite wedding style?
A: A wedding style I like would be a modern gown with a fashion-forward touch.

GO: Who and what inspires you as a designer?
A: The first thing that inspires me as a designer is the fabric and cuts.

GO: Who is your fashion icon?
A: I do not have a specific fashion icon – I appreciate each designer's creations. However, I admire Alexander McQueen's work.
