It was love at first sight when Mercy Ndamukong and Njukang “NJ” Asong met during the winter of 2012. The two were at a party in Laurel, Maryland and NJ was drawn to Mercy’s poise, gentle spirit, and her smile that was “so beautiful that it lit up the room.” In his own words, NJ “felt like he was looking at an angel.”

Mercy and NJ officially began dating in March of 2013, when Mercy was still in pharmacy school in Findlay, Ohio and NJ was working in Maryland. The following year, NJ popped the question during a graduation dinner at a Philadelphia restaurant. In the midst of the celebration, the guest of honor gave a speech and mentioned that Mercy had inspired her to attend pharmacy school; and because of this, she wanted Mercy to cut the cake on her behalf.

Elated, Mercy gave a wonderful speech and asked everyone to join her in the cake cutting. The cake was covered when it was brought into the room. When Mercy removed the cover, she was shocked to find a ring in its place with the words, “Mercy will you marry me?” written on the plate. After taking a few moments to process what was happening, Mercy broke down in tears while the room erupted in cheers and excitement. Eventually, she responded with a “YES!”

Five years later, the couple already had a traditional ceremony – not to mention, two beautiful children, Khloe and Kyle. They decided it was the perfect time to go to church, get married officially, and celebrate with their friends and family.

“We had a great time planning our wedding,” the couple shares. “Initially, we wanted to plan the wedding ourselves, but we later realized it was a big task and we wanted to ensure the day would go as smoothly as possible. This made us hire professionals who have years of experience, and it was the best decision we made for our wedding.”

When their August wedding date arrived, everything unfolded smoothly. One of the day’s highlights was NJ’s reaction during their first look, which moved Mercy to tears. Mercy also recalls walking down the aisle during the ceremony and seeing all the beautiful smiles and flashing camera lights as NJ waited for her “like a Samurai warrior.”

“We knew the wedding production was going to be great, but our A-list team of vendors gave us more than a glimpse of Heaven,” says the couple. “The moment we opened our eyes during the décor reveal and saw the reception ballroom, it felt like we were in a trance; taken to Heaven, to experience God’s beauty. Then we quickly realized it was real – it was our reception ballroom! Mercy screamed, cried and then danced. The décor, flooring, lighting and the music in the background was all perfectly put together beyond our wildest dreams. Mercy relives every hour of the wedding day in her quiet time. We couldn’t be more grateful to all who made our day exceptionally amazing.”
