    BROOKE SIKORA & LARS GEHRE

August 10, 2013 in Siena, Italy

In the summer of 2009, shortly after Lars Gehre moved to Portland, he met Brooke Sikora in the lobby of their Pearl District building. It was a rainy Sunday afternoon and she was spending the weekend with her best friend touring through wine country in Oregon. During a quick stop at her apartment to drop off wine, Brooke saw Lars in the hallway by the mailboxes.  Neither had ever seen each other in the building, but ironically only lived a floor apart.

The moment they met, they seemed unable to speak so Brooke’s friend did all the talking. Before leaving to a nearby restaurant, they invited Lars to join them for a bite. Brooke had never been so nervous wondering whether he would join them and if not when she would ever see him again.  After about half an hour of trying on all her friends’ lipsticks, Lars showed up.

He later admitted that he was calling all his friends to join him, without success. The moment Brooke and Lars sat down they started talking and have been inseparable since.  It must have been love at first sight because they knew that they would marry each other the moment they met.

Two and a half years later, on New Year’s Eve, Lars proposed to Brooke and she accepted. They spent the following year and a half planning their destination wedding in Italy since all of Lars’ family lived in Europe.  Plus, Italy possessed a perfect backdrop under the Tuscan sun.

Brooke and Lars wed on Saturday, August 10, 2013 in front of 100 of their closest friends and family who traveled to Tuscany from a collective 12 countries.  The ceremony was conducted predominantly in English, combined with some German traditions including the releasing of doves.

Following the ceremony, the couple and guests sipped Prosecco and cocktails, snacked on hors d’oeuvres and enjoyed the music of a classic Italian folk trio band while the sun set. A five course Italian meal followed on a terrace of the villa paired with a variety of Italian wines. After dinner, guests danced under the stars on the patio by the beautiful pool until the morning.

Brooke and Lars honeymooned for two and a half weeks in Seychelles and other parts of Africa where they visited Victoria Falls and went on a ten day safari in Botswana.
