A Cross-Cultural Destination Wedding in Sintra and Lisbon, Portugal
Megan and Karan’s wedding was created as a shared experience over three days in Sintra and Lisbon. Guests from around the world came together to celebrate the couple’s Italian and English and Indian roots and the life they have built while living in Ghana.
The events blended Portuguese traditions with a Western ceremony and Indian celebrations in a way that felt natural and welcoming. Rather than focusing on scale or décor, the wedding centered on spending quality time with loved ones. Surrounded by the enchantment of lush mountains, historic monasteries, and timeless European charm, Megan and Karan welcomed friends and family from across the globe to Portugal for a spectacular, three-day destination wedding.

Megan, of Italian-English heritage, and Karan, of Indian heritage, curated a cross-cultural celebration that honored their cultures, their families, and the global community they have built together. Guests travelled from Ghana, England, Italy, Brazil, Dubai, and India, creating a vibrant, multicultural gathering.
Welcome Events and Two After-Parties
The wedding festivities began with a warm and relaxing welcome lunch at Spices Restaurant. After their long journeys, guests were treated to an international buffet with flavors from across Asia and beyond. A wedding lounge was set up, where every guest’s need was catered to throughout the wedding weekend. A hospitality desk to answer any event-related questions was placed right in the center next to a popup shop filled with snacks and goodies for guests to help themselves whenever they felt peckish. There were also daily steaming, hair and makeup, henna, and massage services available to guests to make sure they were relaxed and well-prepared for the upcoming events.
That evening, a “Welcome to Portugal” dinner was hosted. Adens Garden glowed with soft lights, guiding guests to the ballroom, where they were greeted with fresh roasted chestnuts—a comforting Portuguese tradition on a crisp, autumn night. Guests captured memories at a retro-style photo booth framed by the dramatic Monastery façade. Stilt walkers and jugglers dressed in costumes inspired by Portugal’s iconic blue-and-white tiles welcomed guests in theatrical fashion, setting the tone for a night of cultural immersion.

After dinner, the night evolved into two parallel after-parties. For the “Young & Wild,” there was the Monastery Courtyard, where LED décor and a dance floor lit the night sky. A DJ played from a balcony, while a giant suspended disco ball created magical visual effects around the space. Samba dancers added to the high-octane ambiance, while a three-piece LED band filled the courtyard with illuminated drums, violins, and high-energy performances.
In tandem, an acoustic singer performed inside the Arches Room for a more cozy and intimate afterparty filled with cocktails and shisha. Late-night snacks were strategically laid out between the two parties so guests could conveniently nibble on some bites whenever hunger kicked in. Throughout the evening, guests moved freely between both parties, enjoying two entirely different worlds in one unforgettable night.

The Western Wedding and Sangeet
On Day 2 of Megan and Karan’s wedding itinerary, The Arches Room was beautifully transformed overnight into a serene wedding chapel. Soft white florals, candlelit pathways, and a grand floral arch created the perfect backdrop for a Western-style ceremony.
The ceremony was filled with emotion and meaningful family involvement. Megan’s aunt officiated, bringing personal warmth to the vows, while her grandmother made an unforgettable appearance as the flower girl, eliciting smiles from every guest. Megan walked down the aisle with her father to the soothing sounds of a string quartet, and a live painter captured the ceremony in real time.
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a sprawling lunch across the monastery’s historic spaces. The décor reflected Megan’s Italian and English heritage, blending elegant white and yellow florals with citrus elements. Special touches included a live tiramisu wedding cake, an audio phone book for recorded wishes, a gin bar, and a Sarti spritz station.

That same evening, the celebration moved to Lisbon’s iconic SUD Lisboa Hall—a stunning venue overlooking the Tagus River and the 25 de Abril Bridge. The theme, “Gemstones,” came alive through vibrant florals and décor inspired by emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and amethysts.
The Sangeet was filled with laughter and joy as family and friends delivered heartfelt performances, introducing international guests to the rhythm and color of Indian culture. The atmosphere reached new heights when Best Kept Secret, flown in from India, delivered an electrifying performance that had the crowd on their feet. The emcee, DJ and percussionist continued the momentum, keeping the celebration alive well into the early morning.

The Last Day
The final day of celebrations began with a wedding lunch at Mercatto Restaurant, where guests gathered to enjoy a warm meal and tie the traditional safa, preparing for the vibrant Indian festivities ahead.
The groom’s side soon assembled for the lively baraat, with Karan carried through in a vintage Rolls Royce. Even through the rainy skies, the EMCEE and DJ kept spirits soaring from atop a musical truck, filling the air with beats as family and friends danced their way through the procession.
The celebrations continued at the serene 16th century UNESCO heritage site, Nuncio Garden, transformed into a breathtaking Garden of Pheras for the bride and groom’s traditional Hindu ceremony. Guests were welcomed by traditional musicians performing on the sitar, table and flute. Surrounded by lush greenery and floral artistry, the couple took their sacred vows under open skies, marking one of the most meaningful moments of the wedding.

Megan and Karan’s multi-day destination wedding in Portugal culminated in a magical reception at the iconic Casino Estoril, themed “Under the Stars.” The night kicked off during cocktail hour in the foyer area with an illusionist and live sketch artist keeping the guests entertained. Celestial décor set an elegant tone as Inspiration Live Music delivered a showstopping performance. Violinists performed from elevated pods, dancers elegantly moved through the room, and the couple’s favorite songs filled the venue.
After a romantic first dance, the newlyweds cut into a stunning four-tier Portugal themed wedding cake. Emotional speeches, a beautifully curated family-style dinner menu, and handcrafted cocktails made the evening unforgettable. The DJ kept the dance floor alive late into the night, ensuring the celebration concluded with the same joy, energy, and love that had defined all three days.
