Having just returned to NYC from a photo shoot in LA, Isabela Rangel wasn’t planning on going anywhere until a friend convinced her to join her at a nightclub called Provocateur.

“He called me in the morning and said he missed his flight (coincidentally? The verdict is still out on that one!)” Isabela says. “He asked if I could meet for lunch. The next weekend, I flew to Miami to visit him and, as they say, the rest is history. We were a couple ever since.”

Over the next year, the two maintained a long distance relationship with Isabela traveling to Miami as much as she could between jobs. In October of 2015, David took his then-girlfriend to a local art exhibit in Miami’s Wynwood district. There, Isabela was surprised to see a mural of her face on a wall with the question, “Will You Marry Me?” and two check boxes that said “Yes” or “No.”

“He walked me in front of the mural, got on one knee and proposed,” Isabela describes. “He had a can of spray paint so I could check the box. After I said ‘yes,’ 50 of our closest friends came out of hiding to congratulate us. It was magical.”

The planning process for a wedding at the Wynwood Walls soon began, headed by wedding planner Caro Toledo. Breaking up the venue into four different spaces, guests mingled in the garden during the cocktail reception, surrounded by amazing street art, then were ushered into a second space for the wedding ceremony. The bride and groom were married by their close friend, Pastor Rich Wilkerson, Jr., surrounded by an all-white setting of elegant draping, flowers, and matching carpeting.

After the ceremony, everyone meandered towards the dinner reception area, where Starr Events had set up several food stations. Vintage sofas and chairs filled the space, and chandeliers dangled from trees. There was also a replica of the couple’s proposal mural painted on one of the walls. With several bars and no seating chart, guests enjoyed a relaxed yet lively celebration with a live DJ.

“One of the funniest parts of the evening was when Kanye West interrupted CEO and founder of DuJour magazine, Jason Binn’s, speech to tell us ‘this is the best wedding,’ says the bride. “It was an unexpected but fun moment. We are still laughing!”

The couple’s favorite part of the night was the dance party, which followed the reception and took place under a large tent with funky décor, club-inspired tables, smoke and lighting effects, a full band, DJs, and Brazilian dancers. A dessert station and photo booth were also set up in one of the venue’s art galleries.

“It was like one of David’s nightclubs under the stars,” Isabela says. “The team at Wynwood Walls was amazing. Jessica Goldman and her team went above and beyond to ensure we and our guests had a night we’ll never forget.”
