Jeannie Kang & Edwin Hur

They first met in August 2008 as Jeannie was hosting a surprise going away party at her apartment for a mutual friend. Coincidentally, Jeannie was her classmate and Edwin was her co-worker.

In addition to saying goodbye, Edwin wanted to be there for the food so he quickly made his way to the front of the buffet line. Ironically, the first thing he ate was Jeannie’s carnitas taco. 

After taking a bite, he looked around and blurted out, “Who made this? Where is my wife? Where is my WIFE?!” So, Jeannie’s future maid of honor tapped him and pointed at Jeannie. He was determined to talk to her as soon as he finished his second plate. “If not for true love, than at least for the recipe,” Edwin said.

Five years later, Edwin was ready to propose. So, he flew Jeannie to Seattle for her birthday. They drove out to a small town where he grew up called Mill Creek located 45 minutes north of Seattle. There, they took a long walk on the trails he used to play on when he was a child. “I think he was imagining proposing in front of a beautiful lake, but somewhere in the last 10 years the lake turned into a swamp,” Jeannie said. 

So, he walked her to a bench, but he forgot to prepare the speech. Nonetheless, he got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me,” and handed Jeannie the ring. She was speechless and did not accept his proposal for at least two minutes. “We were both a bit stunned about the step we were about to take,” Edwin said.

Jeannie and Edwin were wed on September 7, 2013 in Beverly Hills so it was a sunny day as it was 90 degrees. Edwin was waiting for Jeannie at the bottom of the stairs. They walked towards each other and met on the middle landing. She was all choked up when she saw him, but when he saw her coming down the aisle with her dad, he started tearing up making all the guests cry. “It was a pretty emotional wedding,” said Jeannie. They did their own vows along with the traditional vows so that they could make the ceremony their own. 

Jeannie was in awe when she walked into the ballroom. “The reception was amazing,” Edwin said. Their first dance was choreographed to The Nearness of You by Nora Jones. They also devised a five – minute long flash mob as they combined a number of songs starting with (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life ending with Gangnam Style. 

One of the most notable things about the reception was their band, the Rembrandt band, according to Jeannie. Following the wedding, they caught a plane to Paris where they honeymooned!
