JW Marriott Essex House is an Historic NYC Wedding Venue Across from Central Park

Located just steps away from Central Park, JW Marriott Essex House is an historic landmark hotel that serves as one of the top luxury wedding venues in NYC. With its Art Deco design and lavish interiors, Essex House caters to the city’s ultra-stylish locals and visitors alike. Jocelyn McCarthy, Director of Catering, shares more about planning an NYC wedding at this beautiful property.

GO: How would you describe the architectural style of your property?

A: The Essex House is an iconic example of NYC Art Deco design, with curated art, delicate flourishes, geometric carpet patterns, gold-leaf wall coverings and crystal lamps and chandeliers throughout the venue. Our Grand Salon is in the Beaux Arts style, with hand-painted murals that evoke Versailles and provide a unique backdrop for elevated events.

GO: What was the inspiration behind the design of your interiors and guest rooms?

A: A landmark historic hotel, the Essex House has remained true to its Art Deco roots since its opening in 1931. Our well-appointed guest rooms and suites feature modern reimagining of this classic design, with plush bedding, marble bathrooms and breathtaking views of Central Park or Manhattan.

GO: Is there a type of wedding that fits best with your venue? (i.e. Traditional, glamorous, bohemian, rustic, etc.)

A: At the Essex House, our catering team personalizes service to craft the wedding of your dreams, working with the couple each step of the way to ensure your needs are flawlessly met and your unique touches celebrated. While our iconic spaces exude romance and glamour, we pride ourselves on the versatility of the venue to fit the needs of each unique couple.

GO: In what type(s) of cuisine does your culinary team specialize?

A: Each delectable menu is crafted to represent the couple, from selecting hors d’oeuvres to customizing the wedding cake. Kosher catering is available, and we can coordinate with hotel-approved vendors for an array of ethnic cuisines.

GO: What type of activities are available for guests to partake in during a wedding weekend?

A: Central Park is our unofficial back yard – just steps from the hotel, guests can relax in the sunshine, explore classic architecture and sculpture through the park, or even enjoy a gourmet picnic curated by our partner, Perfect Picnic NYC. The Essex House is located near Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, ideal for those seeking to indulge in the arts.

For the shoppers in your wedding party, Columbus Circle and 5th Ave shopping are minutes away. Broadway and Radio City are also a short walk away, and our expert concierge team is always ready to assist with procuring tickets to the hottest shows. PRIMP Spa is available on site or in suite for relaxing treatments, from hair, make up and nails for the big day to relaxing massages to help you unwind.

GO: What facilities, restaurants, or catering options do you have available for wedding week events like welcome dinners or post-wedding farewell brunches?

A: In addition to our restaurant and Art Deco Lounge, we have multiple event spaces throughout the hotel for pre- and post- nuptial events.

GO: What are some nearby attractions that guests can visit?

A:  Ideally located in midtown Manhattan, the hotel is steps from Central Park and near many iconic landmarks. Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Broadway and Lincoln Center are within walking distance, as is Columbus Circle and the shops on Fifth Avenue. There are numerous museums to visit, like the Met and the American Museum of Natural History. We are located near most major subway lines, which provide quick access to the rest of Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs.
